Bet builders explained
How a bet builder combines markets from one match into a single price, why the odds are lower than multiplying the parts, and how to use one well.
A bet builder (also “same game multi”) lets you combine several outcomes from one match into one bet: both teams to score, over 2.5 goals and a named scorer, for example.
Why the price is not a straight multiplication
The outcomes are correlated. If a striker scores, over 2.5 goals becomes more likely, so the bookmaker cannot simply multiply the three separate prices. It uses a model of the match to price the combination, and adds a margin that is typically larger than on the individual markets. Bet builders are among the highest-margin products a sportsbook sells.
Using one well
Combine outcomes that are genuinely independent or whose correlation the bookmaker under-prices, keep the number of legs small, and compare the built price with the separate prices multiplied together: if the builder pays close to the product, the correlation is being ignored in your favour; if it pays far less, you are paying for it.
Settlement quirks
Legs are settled on the bookmaker’s own statistics provider, which can differ from television on shots, cards and assists. Read the settlement rules once.
