Local betting landscape
South Africa licenses online sports betting through provincial bookmaker licences, mostly from the Western Cape and Mpumalanga, but the National Gambling Act 2004 prohibits online casino games. Advertising is lawful under provincial rules and affiliates operate for licensed bookmakers.

Gambling is regulated concurrently by the national government and the nine provinces. Bookmaker licences issued by a provincial board allow online sports betting nationwide; the Western Cape and Mpumalanga issue most of them. Interactive gambling (online casino) was to be regulated by a 2008 amendment that never came into force, so it remains prohibited, and the National Gambling Board has warned against offshore casinos.
Rules that matter to players
Minimum age 18. Winnings from licensed bookmakers are not taxed. Self-exclusion is provincial.
Advertising and affiliates
Bookmaker advertising is lawful with responsible-gambling notices and no targeting of minors. Affiliates promote licensed bookmakers; promoting online casinos is unlawful.
Tax
Operators pay provincial betting taxes on gross revenue.
