Local betting landscape
The Netherlands licensed online gambling in October 2021 under the KSA, then tightened quickly: untargeted advertising was banned in 2023, sports sponsorship in 2025, deposit limits are mandatory and the CRUKS self-exclusion register covers all licensees. Affiliates may operate only through targeted channels.

The Remote Gambling Act opened a licensed market on 1 October 2021. The KSA licenses and publishes the list, and has fined unlicensed operators heavily.
Rules that matter to players
Minimum age 18, with players under 25 treated as vulnerable: extra deposit-limit checks and, since 2024, monthly limits of €300 for under-25s and €700 for others before a financial check. CRUKS is the self-exclusion register. Autoplay and certain bonus mechanics are restricted.
Advertising and affiliates
Untargeted advertising (TV, radio, outdoor, print) has been banned since July 2023; sports sponsorship since July 2025. Online advertising is allowed only where it can be targeted away from under-24s and vulnerable groups. Affiliate sites are lawful on that basis, and licensees are responsible for them.
Tax
Operators pay gambling tax on gross gaming revenue, 34.2 per cent in 2025 and 37.8 per cent from 2026. Winnings from licensed operators are tax-free.
