Local betting landscape
Kenya’s Gambling Regulatory Authority publishes local operator records, with a large mobile-money-driven market. Winnings are taxed by withholding, excise on stakes has risen repeatedly, and a 2025 Gambling Control Act and BCLB directives have restricted advertising, including a 2025 suspension of gambling ads pending new rules.

Kenya’s market runs on M-Pesa: most bets are placed and paid by mobile money. The Gambling Regulatory Authority publishes the operator register under the Gambling Control Act 2025 framework. Its public table still carries a 2025/26 heading, so the entries above do not independently confirm renewal for 2026/27.
Rules that matter to players
Minimum age 18. A 20 per cent withholding tax applies to winnings, and excise duty applies to stakes.
Advertising and affiliates
The former BCLB suspended gambling advertising in 2025. Consult the GRA’s current advertising rules and approvals before running affiliate promotions.
Tax
Operators pay betting tax on gross gaming revenue and excise on stakes; rates have changed several times since 2019.
