Goals are not a proxy for corners
An attacking team may create chances through central passes rather than blocked crosses. Look at the mechanism behind corner counts: wide attacks, blocks and sustained pressure. A team’s need to chase a result can change that pattern during a match.
Compare similar situations
Check home and away figures, opponents and the number of games observed. A high corner total against one deep defence does not describe every match-up. Use averages together with a range or distribution where it is available.
Read card definitions
A cards market may count cards, bookings or booking points. Treatment of second yellows, red cards, substitutes and staff can differ. The exact settlement wording matters more than a generic statistic labelled cards.
Referee averages are context
A referee average is affected by the matches in the sample. Combine it with playing styles, expected personnel and the competition, rather than using it as a standalone prediction. Avoid drawing strong conclusions from a handful of appointments.
